Sunday, October 28, 2018 We were plodding along, the porcupine and I, neither one of us paying any attention, unaware that we were on a crash course in the woods. Fortunately I looked up in time before things got too close for comfort and managed to take his picture when he finally looked up and noticed me.

Sunday, January 26, 2020 The bog is frozen solid, but there are a number of breathing holes for this otter to surface. Here he's popped up with what appears to be a juicy catfish, one of several he caught while i was watching. This image was made from several hundred feet away and has been cropped.

Little Bear

Saturday, July 11, 2020 While walking in the woods a rustling noise caught my attention. I looked and saw this little black bear scampering up a nearby tree. I'm sure mama was close by though I could not see her. This is a quick, one-shot grab before moving on. A mama bear with a cub is not to be trifled with.

Sunday, August 30, 2020 Mama bear was in the woods with three cubs. They were unaware of my presence - at least initially. This is not a great shot but the best I could do from a relatively safe distance through the trees.

Spring Stroll

Friday, April 23, 2021 A New Hampshire Black Bear out for an early morning stroll. I'm not sure what this fellow is finding to eat in these lean days of early spring but he looks pretty healthy after his winter hibernation. I was about 150 feet away as he paused along this beaver dam. He never saw me, but soon after this shot he picked up my scent and disappeared quickly into the forest. Black bears will lose as much as 20 perecent of their body weight during hibernation and spend much of the year gaining it back. Makes me wonder how big he'll look come autummn
