Suomenlinna
Suomenlinna, the Fortress of Finland, is located on a small group of islands just off the coast of Helsinki. Originally called Sveaborg, it was constructed in the mid-18th century during the Swedish era, under the oversight of Augustin Ehrensvard, whose tomb is located on one of the islands. Occupied by the Russian military for many years, it was renamed Suomenlinna in 1918, after Finland declared independence. A short, 15-minute ferry ride from Helsinki takes you there.
