Thursday, June 30, 2011 Morning At the Den The youngsters were peeking out at me during an early morning visit to the den. This evening I found what appears to be fresh Gray Fox scat on the trail behind the barn, so it seems likely that Mama Fox is tending to the kits. Some additional images of the kits are viewable in the Fauna gallery, link below. http://www.kevindwarren.com/Portfolio/Fauna/8847619_Ftk29#430280932_2iiTj
Wednesday, June 29, 2011 Gray Fox Kit (Urocyon cinereoargenteus) This morning Lisa discovered a trio of gray fox kits playing on the front grass. It turns out that their den is situated in the remnants of an old stone wall now overgrown with trees. I was able to observe them this evening as they scampered over and under a small woodpile in front of the den. We have not yet seen any adults. Hopefully they are off hunting and will soon return to the den, but we will watch closely and consult with NH Fish & Game if necessary. The three kits are unimaginably cute!
