Friday, June 24, 2011 First Blossom This spring and summer are the polar opposite of last year's excessively hot and dry weather. More rain yesterday and today, and cool. Nevertheless, the summer squash are putting forth blossoms.

Tuesday, June 21, 2011 The Longest Day Today marks the beginning of summer, the Summer Solstice, when the sun is at its northermost point in the Northern Hemisphere. It is perhaps my favorite day of the year. Here in New Hampshire it is as close as we get to a midnight sun with 15 hours and 23 minutes of daylight. I am happily recalling and truly missing the Finnish summer night we experienced last year! It's bittersweet, knowing that the days will now begin to grow gradually shorter, but nevertheless, there are plenty of long summer days still ahead to enjoy!
