Sunday, March 27, 2011 A Beech Day A pair of beech trees reflect the afternoon sunlight, one week into spring. There is an abundance of beech trees on the property, but sadly, not many sugar maples. This is maple sugar making time in New England. A friend assures me that the cold nights and sunny days have caused the sap to flow quite well this past week. The local sugar houses are boiling well into the nights and producing a fine quality syrup.
Saturday, March 26, 2011 Seventh Day of Spring Except for the strength of the sun you wouldn't know it was spring; only 14 F (-10C) this morning with a wind chill. Spent some hours exerting myself on one of the brush piles. Some success but with all the snow it's still more work then it's worth. At this rate I'll probably end up burning all these piles on a damp day in summer. Ah, Summer...
Friday, March 25, 2011 Home Improvement Lisa began stripping the wallpaper in the kitchen today in preparation for painting. Step one in what will likely become a fairly extensive kitchen revitalization. Someone named Jenny wrote her name on the sheet rock in 1976. I was only 13, I haven't a clue.
