Friday, July 30, 2021 New Hampshire has just experienced the rainiest July and second wettest month in recorded state history. This is from a bridge over the Ashuelot (ash-whee-lot) River, about a mile downstream from my house. The river is far exceeding its usual modest summer level. Seven miles upstream from here the dam on 368 acre Ashuelot Pond was in imminent danger of being breached today. Had that happened I would not be standing on this bridge making this image because this bridge would not be here. Fortunately we were not affected by the evacuations and, oddly enough, I had a pretty normal Friday. Mercifully, the situation has stabilized and the danger appears to have passed for now.
