Saturday, September 19, 2020 A Broad-winged hawk - juvenile I believe - though open to correction. He's been hunting at the south end of the bog for the past month but I haven't had a photo opp until today. I was hunkered down in the bushes hoping for a moose while the morning sun grew warm and I grew drowsy. I laid back and began to doze, only to be awakened by a shrill cry directly overhead. I tilted my head back so as not to spook him and there he was, 15 feet above me on a low tree branch. Without changing position I brought the camera up over my head and began to shoot as best I could. For this shot I became something of a contortionist to get the right orientation. Lying prone on your back, directly beneath a large and hungry hawk, creates a feeling of vulnerability. Now I know what a hawk's prey must feel like.

Sunday, September 13, 2020 I heard them coming but didn't have time to adjust camera settings. 1/60 sec is not a shutter speed for birds in flight but I like the composition nevertheless. They were heading north but likely en route to an alternate fishing location for the day.
