Common Snapping Turtle (Chelydra serpentina)

Found navigating the gravel driveway this evening.

Known for their fierce disposition, these turtles are too large to withdraw into their shells, hence, biting is their defense mechanism. Their necks have surprising range and their jaws are powerful enough to remove a finger. This is just a small one, but worthy of respect, nonetheless!
