The weather has continued on the cool side and conducive to outdoor labor. I've begun building burn piles in the areas cleared late last fall. One is visible on the right and one in the far left background. My hope is to turn some of this area into early successional habitat to benefit many different species of wildlife, including the Purple Finch, the offical state bird of New Hampshire.
The pesky black flies (Mayflies) came to torment me today as I worked. These scourges of spring are relentless and although they have not as yet reached the height of their annoying existence I was bitten plenty and must have swallowed at least six.
